Clinical Experience

Dr Debkumar Ray is a consultant surgeon in Kolkata practicing in the field of gastrointestinal surgery since 2001 December and is the lead surgeon in AMRI Hospital Salt Lake. now Manipal Hospitals . He has performed more than 15000 laparoscopic and more than 4000 complex gastrointestinal surgeries since his return from the United Kingdom.   He received training in the Wessex deanery in the UK for seven years after finishing his FRCS from Royal College of Physicians & Surgeons of Glasgow in the year 1996. He did his basic skills course in Laparoscopy from the LIMIT(Leeds general Infirmary,UK) under Prof Mc Mahon (one of the pioneer in laparoscopic world)in the year 1996. During his work period in the UK,  he has worked with several stalwart surgeons of UK like, Prof. J R T Monson, Mr Chris Royston, Mr Peter Lee, Mr Shaw Sommers  etc. His main training  in the UK as an upper GI surgeon  which includes complex pancreatic , oesophago-gastric surgery, Laparoscopic biliary  and hiatus hernia surgery. His area of special interest is in advanced laparoscopic gastrointestinal surgery like lap colorectal, lap hiatus hernia ,lap hernia and lap CBD explorations   He has been honoured as an operating faculty in several regional and national workshops as a laparoscopic hernia surgeon and colorectal surgeon . He has attended & presented in several national and international conferences  in the UK , Australia, Indonesia,Italy and France. .
